Frequently Asked Questions

  • Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a membership-based healthcare model. Families pay a monthly fee for comprehensive pediatric care, allowing for longer visits, easier access to your pediatrician, and more personalized care.

  • Direct Primary Care makes sense for most families because it focuses on personalized, accessible care—without surprise bills or long waits.

    It’s a great fit for:

    • Families with high-deductible plans who are paying out-of-pocket for most pediatrician visits anyway

    • Parents who want a predictable monthly fee with no copays or hidden costs

    • Families facing insurance changes or career transitions who want to keep the same doctor

    • Members of health-sharing ministries whose plans don’t cover routine care

    • Parents who value longer visits and thorough, unhurried conversations

    • Busy families who need same-day scheduling

    • Caregivers who prefer to communicate with their pediatrician directly instead of dealing with forms and phone trees

If you want more time, more access, and more peace of mind, DPC may be just the right fit for your family.

  • Membership Fees are per child and based on age.

    • 0–2 years: $130/month - includes all visits at home through the 1 month well visit

    • 2–5 years: $90/month

    • 5+ years: $70/month

    • Family maximum: $270/month (no matter how many children)

    • Three-month initial commitment required. After that, memberships continue month-to-month with no long-term contract.

    • One-time registration fee: $100 per family → Waived for the first 100 families as part of our Founder's Discount!

  • At Expedition Health and Pediatrics, we do not accept private insurance. Instead, we offer a Direct Primary Care (DPC) model for families with private coverage. This means families pay a simple, transparent monthly membership fee for unlimited visits, direct communication, and personalized care—without surprise bills or third-party interference.

We are enrolled as an Arkansas Medicaid provider. If your child is covered by AR Medicaid (ARKids First), you can choose to receive your primary care here without paying a membership fee.

  • Every family in our practice receives care through the same Direct Primary Care (DPC) model—focused on accessibility, trust, and a strong doctor-family relationship. This model includes same or next-day visits, direct communication with your pediatrician, and a focus on wellness over bureaucracy.

The only difference is how payment works:

    • For families with Arkansas Medicaid, we bill Medicaid directly—no membership fee required.

    • For families with private insurance or no insurance, care is provided through a simple monthly membership fee instead of billing insurance.

We’ve chosen to accept Medicaid because these families often face the greatest barriers to high-quality care. At the same time, we’ve opted out of private insurance contracts to avoid the administrative burdens and restrictions that interfere with the kind of care children deserve.

    • Unlimited in-person and virtual visits

    • Well-child checkups

    • Same or next business day sick visits

    • Developmental and behavioral screenings

    • Direct communication with your pediatrician

    • Select in-office labs and procedures (such as strep/flu testing, earwax removal)

While vaccines are not technically included in the membership fee, we do participate in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program for eligible patients (those who are Medicaid-enrolled, uninsured, or American Indian/Alaska Native). For privately insured patients, we are partnering with a local facility to bill insurance directly for routine, insurance-covered immunizations.

  • You’re free to use any facility you choose—and you can absolutely use your insurance at those facilities if you’d like.

That said, we’re also building partnerships with local labs and imaging centers to offer up-front, transparent pricing—often at a lower cost than what you’d pay by billing through insurance. Many families find this option simpler and more affordable, especially if they have high-deductible plans or want to avoid surprise bills.

We'll help guide you to the best option for your situation—whatever fits your family best.

  • That’s entirely up to you. While our membership covers a wide range of pediatric primary care—including same-day sick visits, well care, and direct access to your doctor—we do recommend that families maintain some form of insurance or cost-sharing coverage for services outside our clinic, such as:

    • Emergency room visits

    • Hospitalizations

    • Specialist care

    • Surgeries or advanced imaging

Many families pair their membership with a high-deductible plan, a health-sharing ministry, or another cost-conscious option for care outside their membership. We're always happy to talk through what that might look like for your family during a Base Camp Visit.

  • Yes! We include home visits for newborns through the 1-month well visit for families within 30 minutes of the clinic. After that, optional home visits may be available for an additional fee when scheduling allows.

  • Member families can reach out by phone or by sending a secure message through the SigmaMD patient app. The app also allows members to access their health records and even schedule their own appointments. Communication is easy, direct, and designed to keep your family closely connected to care—without the hassle.

  • You’ll be notified in advance of vacations or time away. The doctor will remain available by message whenever possible, and we’ll arrange coverage if in-person care is needed.

There may be rare instances when coverage by another doctor at our office is not possible, and you may need to seek care elsewhere. In those cases we will help you navigate the best options for care. Our desire is to keep our patients from needing urgent cares or emergency rooms as much as possible!

  • After the 3-month minimum, you may cancel anytime with 30 days’ notice.

  • We believe that our membership model provides the best value and most personalized care for families. That said, we understand some families may want to get to know us first.

We offer a one-time in-office Scout visit for $200 per child. This problem-focused visit includes a follow-up email including any lab results, but no further follow-up care.

If your family decides to enroll in a membership within 14 days of the visit, we’ll apply the $200 toward your registration and membership fees. It’s our way of letting you try our care without losing value if you choose to join later.

  • Yes! We can often treat minor lacerations using skin adhesive, staples, or sutures, depending on the wound. However, every injury is different, so we’ll need to evaluate the laceration in person first to determine if it can be safely and appropriately repaired in our clinic.

For members, the procedure is included in your membership (with only a small fee to cover materials).
For non-members, this visit is billed as a $200 Scout Visit, plus the cost of materials.

  • Yes, we offer circumcision for boys up to 8 weeks of age.

Not all infants are appropriate candidates for the procedure. A physical exam must confirm normal anatomy, and all infants must have received a vitamin K injection at least 24 hours before the procedure.

We offer both in-office and at-home circumcision options for member and non-member families:

    • In-office: $350 for members, $450 for non-members*

    • At-home (when available): $450 for members, $550 for non-members*

*Non-member pricing includes a required pre-procedure evaluation in our office.

All circumcisions include anesthetic, aftercare instructions, and follow-up support.

  • If you're considering joining, start by filling out our interest form so we can keep you updated as we prepare to open.

Once pre-registration begins, you’ll be able to schedule a Base Camp Visit—a no-pressure opportunity to:
